Patios & Walkways

About Us       Contact Us
Adding a Walkway or Patio is a great way to define your landscape while both increasing home value and enhancing curb appeal. We understand that you have your own reasons for wanting a walkway or patio, but we know that on top of your reason, that it is an investment in both your home and your future, so we build them to last for years to come. We stand behind the products we install and warranty our work.
In addition to Walkways and Patios, NorthShire Landscaping also installs stone edging like the cobblestone edging in the image to the left. Stone edging can be done with a variety of different products including cobblestones, bricks, pavers, and other natural stones. Stone edging offers definitive borders between patios and drip edges, or lawns and beds. Stone edging is a great way to enhance any landscape.

We use several different brands and types of pavers including:

We install our patios and walkways based on the industry standard installation method. Below is an installation diagram of what goes into each and every one of our patios/walkways.
First, we excavate out the desired area by about 9"-12", then we add about 6"-8" of compactable gravel to make a solid base or foundation.
Next, we put down landscape fabric to keep the compactable out of the paver sand. After the landscape fabric is installed, specialty plastic paver edging is nailed into place to prevent the sand from running and the pavers from shifting.
Then we add precisely 1" of fine paver sand on top of the fabric covered base. This provides an excellent surface to lay the pavers onto.
Finally, we lay the pavers leaving 1/8" spacing between them. When we have finished laying the pavers, we add a special poly sand or sealant on top and then compact toe whole surface. This final compacting allows for the poly sand to get between all of the spaces to create an even seal. With a solid base and completely sealed top surface, there will be no virtually no movement between pavers but the surface is allowed to rise/settle and expand/contract without cracking.
